WT Baseball History

WTBC is proud of its roots and its past history and acknowledges those that have pathed a line of strength, resilience and competitiveness.

Founded in 1918 when several members of the Freemasons Ramblers Baseball Club combined with players from the Underdale area to enter a team to represent West Torrens in the 1919 district baseball competition. The team finished second in its first season and won the "A" grade premiership the following year.

The club's first ground was in the parklands on the north side of Henley Beach Road and on the city (east) side of Bakewell Bridge. Several parkland sites were used as home grounds over the next few years and at one stage even the current Richmond Oval site was used as a home base.

During 1959 the club built its first "Home-Base" on the eastern boundary of Lockleys Oval. In 2020 we were handed the keys to a state of the art building which new we can proudly call "home with a view". Touted as the best Baseball facility in the league, the Club continues to strive for excellence both on and off the field.

The Capps Medal is the medal awarded to the "best and fairest" player in the South Australian Baseball League during the regular season (i.e. not including finals matches) as decided upon by umpires. It is regarded as the most prestigious award for individual players in the league. The medal was created and designed by Charles James Capps.
